July 21, 2000 Purdue to award degrees during summer commencementWEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. Approximately 1,070 Purdue University students will be eligible to receive degrees during commencement ceremonies at 2:30 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 6, at Elliott Hall of Music. About 440 students will be eligible for undergraduate degrees, said Kathy Munn, assistant registrar. About 370 other students will qualify for master's or professional degrees, and there are about 260 doctoral degree candidates. Purdue President Steven C. Beering will be the commencement speaker. Purdue Alumni Association President Thomas J. Carroll, Carmel, also will address the new graduates during the ceremonies. Jennifer Elizabeth Harting Ward, West Lafayette, will give the student response. She will earn a doctoral degree in chemical engineering. Music for the ceremony will be presented by the Purdue Commencement Band and the PMO Singers. This will be the 181st commencement ceremony at Purdue. The university has been recognizing summer graduates at the West Lafayette campus every year since 1984.
