July 7, 2000 JOURNALISTS: Here's a story idea and a Purdue event during the next two weeks. Purdue scientist studies rare meteoriteMichael Lipschutz, professor of chemistry, is using a new state-of-the-art laboratory at Purdue to examine the chemical composition of a rare, 4.5 billion-year-old meteorite. The meteorite fell to Earth in a remote area of northwest Canada in January, and has captured the interest of scientists worldwide because it may provide clues to the original composition of the solar system before the planets formed. Lipschutz, internationally known for his studies of trace elements in meteorites, was selected from an international group of scientists to perform the chemical analyses of the meteorite. The results of his study will be presented to the scientific community in August. NOTE: The laboratory provides interesting photo opportunities, but it is a "clean room" so media must shoot video or photos of scientists working in the lab through a glass window. A conference at Purdue will provide businesses with the tools to manage call centers both effectively and efficiently. The fifth annual Call Center Campus 2000 takes place on campus July 17 to 20. It is sponsored by the Center for Customer Driven Quality in the university's School of Consumer and Family Sciences.
