EDITORS: During the summer months, the calendar will be mailed every other week. The weekly schedule will resume when the fall semester begins in August.
This calendar lists selected Purdue events during the next five weeks. Events are free and open to the public, except where noted, and all are open to news media coverage. New or updated listings have two asterisks (**). All events in this calendar, plus many others, are listed in Purdue's online calendar.
Updated travel directions around road construction zones near campus are available on the Web.


EVENTS
  • Wednesday, June 14. First of four Black Cultural Center Library Summer Reading Series presentations entitled "Poetry, Prose, & Proverbs: Reflecting on Values." 10:30 a.m.-noon. Black Cultural Center, 1100 Third St. Kindergarten through sixth-grade children will hear readings from literature that reaffirms an African/African-American cultural value system, and learn how to write poetry during a writing workshop. Poems written by series participants will be assembled into a book and added to the library's collection. Other sessions will be on these Wednesdays: June 21, June 28 and July 12. ENTERTAINMENT
** Tuesday, July 4. 6 p.m. Slayter Center of Performing Arts. In conjunction with the Lafayette Symphony Orchestra's "Stars and Stripes" Concert, Purdue Jazz Band presents a European Tour 2000 send-off concert. Admission is free.


CONFERENCES
  • Wednesday through Friday, June 7-9. Home and Family Conference sponsored by the School of Consumer and Family Sciences. Speakers are scheduled Thursday and Friday in the Purdue Memorial Union and Stewart Center.


SEMINARS
** Monday and Tuesday, June 12 and 13. Krannert Center. "Creating Successful E-Business Strategies for the Future," from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. each day. The seminar will cover the strategic and marketing bases of Internet-based businesses, including customers and markets; online communities; online product design; company launch and management; Internet channel and retailing strategies; and communication and personal selling. Program fee is $1,350, which includes readings, refreshments, and access to the course Web site, including its virtual library. There is a $100 per-person discount for groups of five or more from a single company.
