PetSafePet owners in crisis, whether due to domestic violence or natural disaster, are faced with many difficult decisions. They must escape an unfortunate situation, yet are burdened with the guilt of leaving their pets behind. As a result, many pet owners stay, risking their own safety. PetSafe, a new program developed by Purdue's School of Veterinary Medicine and the Department of Sociology and Anthropology in the School of Liberal Arts, has been created to respond to the public's need for emergency pet housing. Sponsored by the Center for the Human Animal Bond, PetSafe provides short-term housing for pets for individuals and families in crisis. For more information about the PetSafe program, contact Janice E. Sojka, associate professor of veterinary medicine.
