JUNE 5-15: PROPERTY TAX REASSESSMENT MEETINGS

This series of property tax reassessment meetings is sponsored by the Cooperative Extension Service to explain issues surrounding recent court decisions regarding property taxes, likely shifts that will occur in taxes, and policy alternatives. There also will be an opportunity for individuals to voice their opinions about changing the system. The meetings will be from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. on these dates: June 5, Porter County Fairgrounds, Valparaiso ; June 6, Kendallville Library, Kendallville ; June 7, Indiana Wesleyan University, Fort Wayne ; June 12, Cass County 4-H Center, Logansport ; June 14, Tippecanoe County Extension Offices, Lafayette ; and June 15, Muncie Area Career Center, Muncie . JUNE 6-9: 87th ANNUAL HOME & FAMILY CONFERENCE

The conference includes more than 25 workshops covering topics such as food safety and telemarketing scams. This event is sponsored by Purdue's Consumer and Family Sciences Extension. Field trips to a home designed by Frank Lloyd Wright, the Moses Fowler House Historic Museum and three horticulture gardens also are scheduled. Entertainment includes the Indiana Extension Homemakers Association County Chorus, a historical-style bridal gown show and a presentation of the musical "Legacy Quilt." Registration is $40 for the entire conference or $30 for either June 7 or 8. Additional fees are required for field trips, entertainment and lunches. JUNE 8-10: WORLD PORK EXPO

This is the largest pork industry trade show and educational event in the world, with about 50,000 producers and more than 500 exhibitors expected to participate. Daily educational events also are planned. The show is held at the Indiana State Fairgrounds in Indianapolis . Advance tickets are available for $5 per adult and $1 per child, by calling (800) 535-2405. On-site admission prices are $8 per adult and $2 per child. JUNE 10: VINTAGE INDIANA

Wine enthusiasts are invited to Indiana's first state wine festival, to be held at Military Park in downtown Indianapolis . The festival will feature 12 Indiana wineries, live music, a variety of foods and a wine/food educational area with demonstrations. The event runs from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Advance tickets are $12 for adults who sample wine and $10 for non-samplers, by calling (800) 832-9463 or at any Marsh Supermarket store. Tickets at the gate will cost $15 for adult wine samplers and $13 for non-samplers. JUNE 14-16: 4-H SCIENCE WORKSHOPS

High- school students and their teachers are invited to attend Science Workshops on the campus of Purdue University. Six different workshops "Formula For Foods," "Allure of Aerospace," "Marvels of Machinery," "All About Animals," "Green and Growing" and "Confidence With Computers" will be offered along with a preview of campus life. Students will spend two nights on the Purdue campus with planned activities such as dinners, dances and recreation. Cost of the workshops ranges from $65 to $100 including registration, housing and most meals. Space is limited and some grade restrictions apply. JUNE 22: PURDUE FORAGE DAY 2000

Participants can choose to attend workshops on alfalfa, dairy or beef at Purdue's Agronomy Research Center in the morning and sessions on sheep, dairy or a tour of the Scholer Purdue Animal Sciences Farm in the evening. More than a dozen companies will demonstrate equipment including mowers, rakes, balers, wrappers and related machinery. Registration will begin at 8:30 a.m. in the Purdue University Animal Science Research and Education Center, located a half mile east of County Road 500 North and U.S. 231, in Tippecanoe County, with activities running from 8:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. The event is free and lunch is available at a minimal cost to participants. JUNE 26-28: 2000 STATE 4-H ROUND-UP

This year's theme is "Round-Up 2000: New Challenges, New Choices." All 4-H members who have completed 7th, 8th or 9th grade by June 29 are invited to the Purdue campus to attend this three-day event, which focuses on developing skills, making friends from around the state and exploring careers. Participants can choose classes from 12 Purdue academic departments with more than 100 career-exploration options. A registration fee of $80 includes housing in Cary Quadrangle, a group photo, two continental breakfasts, an introduction lunch and program support. Participants will need about $40 for up to seven meals at fast food restaurants or Purdue dining facilities, leisure activities, snacks and souvenirs. Registration is due by June 10. JUNE 27: 2000 PURDUE WEED DAY

Attend this year's Purdue Weed Day and sneak a peak at some new corn and soybean herbicides. This free rain or shine event is sponsored by Purdue's Department of Botany and Plant Pathology. Participants can compare the new herbicides with commonly used ones and test their knowledge of weeds in a weed garden with 100 species. Stay in the afternoon and Purdue staff will discuss and review in more detail the research plots visited in the morning. The program will begin at 8:30 a.m. at the Purdue Agronomy Research Center. There is a possibility of earning continuing education credits with CCH's category 1A and category 10. Early arrivals can enjoy coffee and doughnuts. Lunch will not be provided. JUNE 28-30: TRI-STATE MASTER GARDEN CONFERENCE

Members of the Master Gardener programs in Indiana, Kentucky and Ohio are invited to attend this year's "Gardening for the Heart and Soul" conference at Purdue. Participants arrive on June 28 to meet with approximately six authors at the Garden Party and Book Sale. The conference officially begins that evening with a welcome dinner featuring keynote speaker Felder Rushing, Mississippi Extension horticulturist and author. All-day tours to northern Indiana nurseries or Indianapolis gardens are scheduled for June 29. On June 30, a variety of lectures, workshops and tours are offered. Limited space is available in the workshops but lectures and tours are open to all conference attendees. The registration deadline is June 15. Fees range from $165 for commuters to $227 for a single occupancy room. Housing will be available in the air-conditioned Young and Hawkins Graduate Houses. Registration includes dinner on June 28 and a continental breakfast and lunch on June 29 and 30.
