EDITORS: During the summer months, the calendar will be mailed every other week. The weekly schedule will resume when the fall semester begins in August.

This calendar lists selected Purdue events during the next five weeks. Events are free and open to the public, except where noted, and all are open to news media coverage. New or updated listings have two asterisks (**). All events in this calendar, plus many others, are listed in Purdue's online calendar.

Updated travel directions around road construction zones near campus are available on the Web.

EVENTS

** • Wednesday, June 14.  First of four Black Cultural Center Library Summer Reading Series presentations entitled "Poetry, Prose, & Proverbs: Reflecting on Values." 10:30 a.m.-noon. Black Cultural Center, 1100 Third St. Kindergarten through sixth-grade children will hear readings from literature that reaffirms an African/African-American cultural value system, and learn how to write poetry during a writing workshop. Poems written by series participants will be assembled into a book and added to the library's collection. Participants must register for the series by May 31. Other sessions will be on these Wednesdays: June 21, June 28 and July 12. Contact: Dorothy Washington, BCC librarian, (765) 494-3093.

ENTERTAINMENT

• Friday-Sunday, May 25-28.  "All-American" Marching Band performs at Indianapolis 500 Race festivities. The band will entertain at 6 p.m. May 26 at the Indianapolis 500 Staff Dinner; at 6 p.m. May 27 at the Indianapolis 500 Banquet; and at 7 p.m. that day during the Indianapolis 500 Festival Parade; and at 5 a.m. May 28 at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway before the race.

MEETINGS

• Thursday, June 1.  Board of Trustees. 10:30 a.m. Room 304 (Anniversary Drawing Room), Purdue Memorial Union.

CONFERENCES

** • Wednesday through Friday, June 7 to 9.  Home and Family Conference sponsored by the School of Consumer and Family Sciences. Speakers are scheduled Thursday and Friday in the Purdue Memorial Union and Stewart Center.

OTHER

** • Monday, May 29.  Memorial Day. Official university holiday. Offices will be closed, and no classes will be held.
