May 5, 2000 Purdue seeks host families for Japanese studentsWEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. Purdue University's School of Agriculture is seeking Hoosier farm families to host six Japanese college students who will visit Indiana for a month this summer. The first student will arrive July 20 and leave Aug. 20. The other five will arrive Aug. 4 and leave Sept. 8. The students will spend a day or two in West Lafayette when they arrive and a couple more days at the end of their stay. All six are agriculture students who are visiting the United States to learn more about American agriculture and society. They all speak English. "Host families are asked to incorporate the students into their normal routine," said Prudence Miller, international students and visitors coordinator for International Programs in Agriculture. "In the past, the students have enjoyed normal activities like going to the grocery store and visiting the county and state fairs." Host families are expected to provide room and meals. The students can help out with chores on the farm, but because they are visitors, they cannot be paid for their work.
