MAY 9: SIPAC 2000 SERIES

Beef producers are invited to the second of five free programs sponsored by the Southern Indiana Purdue Agricultural Center in Dubois County to improve management practices. Some of the topics to be covered are intensive grazing systems, water systems for intensive grazing, managing performance-tested bulls and grazing summer annuals. The program begins at 6 p.m. and is expected to last approximately two hours. Attendees should meet at SIPAC headquarters, 11371 E. Purdue Farm Road. Other workshops in the series will be July 11, Sept. 12 and Nov. 9 and will deal with livestock and pasture management. MAY 9-23: TREES FROM THE INSIDE OUT

The Indiana Arborist Association is presenting three sessions of this seminar on tree basics, in conjunction with Purdue University and the Indiana Department of Natural Resources, Forestry Division. The seminar will be offered May 9 in Michigan City, May 10 in Fort Wayne and May 23 in Indianapolis. Seminars will run from 8 a.m. to 3:45 p.m. Information will be presented on tree growth, tree lives, and reaction to injury and pruning. Cost for the seminar, which includes lunch, is $25. Certified arborists will earn 4.5 continuing education units for attending, and the cost for the seminar is tax deductible under the lifetime learning tax exemption. MAY 22-24: PROPERTY TAX REASSESSMENT MEETINGS

This series of property tax reassessment meetings is sponsored by the Cooperative Extension Service to explain issues surrounding recent court decisions regarding property taxes, likely shifts that will occur in taxes, and policy alternatives. There also will be an opportunity for individuals to voice their opinions about changing the system. The meetings will be from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. on these dates: May 22, Vanderburgh County 4-H Fairgrounds, Evansville; May 23, Dubois County 4-H Fairgrounds, Jasper; May 24, Salem High School, Salem; June 5, Porter County Fairgrounds, Valparaiso; June 6, Kendallville Library, Kendallville; and June 7, Indiana Wesleyan University, Fort Wayne. JUNE 8-10: WORLD PORK EXPO

This is the largest pork industry trade show and educational event in the world, with an expected attendance of about 50,000 producers from around the world. More than 500 exhibitors and daily educational events make up the World Pork Expo. The show is held at the Indiana State Fairgrounds in Indianapolis. Advance tickets are available for $5 per adult and $1 per child, by calling (800) 535-2405. On-site admission prices are $8 per adult and $2 per child. JUNE 10: VINTAGE INDIANA

Wine enthusiasts are invited to Indiana's first state wine festival, to be held at Military Park in downtown Indianapolis. The festival will feature 12 Indiana wineries, live music, a variety of foods and a wine/food educational area with demonstrations. The event runs from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Advance tickets are available at $12 per adult wine samplers and $10 for non-samplers, by calling (800) 832-9463 or at any Marsh Supermarket store. Tickets at the gate will cost $15 for adult wine samplers and $13 for non-samplers. More information is available at the vintageindiana.com Web site.
