April 14, 2000 Appointments and Promotions– David Huhnke is handling publicity for Purdue Musical Organizations as PMO's director of marketing, effective April 3. Huhnke works for Strategic Marketing Affiliates, a Lafayette firm contracted by PMO to provide marketing services. He is a 1983 Purdue graduate, a former director of marketing and public relations for the United Way of Greater Lafayette, and a former marketing development manager for Purdue Employees Federal Credit Union. Faculty and staff honors– R. Graham Cooks, the Henry Bohn Hass Distinguished Professor of Chemistry, was recently awarded the 2000 Pittsburgh Spectroscopy Award from the Spectroscopy Society of Pittsburgh. The award, given annually to a scientist who has made significant contributions in the field, was presented at the 51st gathering of the Pittsburgh Conference on Analytical Chemistry and Applied Spectroscopy in March. Cooks was honored for his work in developing hybrid mass spectroscopy techniques. By using two mass spectrometers together– one to separate mixtures and the other to identify individual components – Cooks and his group pioneered ways to analyze complex mixtures.
