Purdue nursing gala celebration will be April 28

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – All nurses and friends of nursing are invited to the Purdue University School of Nursing's second annual Gala Celebration of Nursing on Friday, April 28.

The event will be from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the University Inn in West Lafayette. The cost is $25 for the public and $15 for students, and that includes a continental breakfast, a luncheon and a cake reception. Registration is due by April 19.

Events include:

• Continental breakfast and registration beginning at 8 a.m.

• Presentation by Jane Rothrock, a perioperative nurse since 1969 and a nationally known author and speaker, on "Staying Sane in the Fast Lane." Rothrock will identify how changes in health care can affect health care workers, and how they can cope with those changes.

• Presentation by Lafayette native Leslie Mahara Gibson about humor in health care. Gibson, a Purdue graduate and registered nurse, is a nationally known motivational speaker on health and humor.

• Presentation by a representative from Project Hope about how the organization helps people by sending teams of educators and nurses to work in Third World countries.

• Exhibits by health care providers, hospitals and specialty nursing organizations, including the Indiana Nurses Association and Sigma Theta Tau scholarly honorary for nursing.

• Poster session of research and practice topics by Purdue nursing faculty and students.

• Vendor displays of the newest innovative medical technology.

• Book signing by author Gavin Sinclair, a cancer survivor from West Lafayette.

• Prizes and free giveaways throughout the day.

• Closing reception with cake, recognitions and awards.

The Sigma Theta Tau annual meeting will be held immediately following the conference.
