All animal sciences students are encouraged to attend to learn about industry employment needs and desirable traits for graduates. The programs are free, students may bring their own lunches, and refreshments provided. Dates, locations and topics: April 11, Lilly Hall 3-113, "Finding the Best Job for You" April 18, Whistler Hall 116, "What Employers Are Looking for" April 27, Lilly Hall 3-113, "What It Takes to Succeed After Graduation" APRIL 14: FOOD SCIENCE SYMPOSIUM The theme for the 23rd annual Purdue Food Science Club symposium is "Functional Foods: Millennium Foods and Human Health." The symposium runs from 8 a.m. to noon in Room 116, Whistler Hall. Randy Woodson, associate dean of agriculture, will discuss the biotechnology of functional foods. Other symposium topics include functional foods at Purdue, the scientific basis for functional foods, and challenges in developing effective probiotic functional foods. This free symposium is intended for individuals in the food science and advertising industries. APRIL 15-16: BUG BOWL AND SPRINGFEST The 10th annual Bug Bowl aims to increase public awareness about insects with activities such as cricket spitting, cockroach racing, insect crafts and an insect petting zoo. Bug Bowl is part of Purdue's School of Agriculture Springfest. Events will run from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday. Springfest includes the School of Veterinary Medicine Open House, Animal Sciences Boiler Barnyard and the 87th Annual Horticulture Show. For more details, check out the online news release. APRIL 18-19: TRI-STATE DAIRY NUTRITION CONFERENCE Dairy producers and nutrition professionals who attend this conference on dairy nutrition can hear discussions on topics that include nutrient effect on the immune system; what to look for in a nutritional adviser; working with large herds; and feeding and management of cows entering a new herd. The conference runs from noon to 6 p.m. the first day and from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. the second day at the Grand Wayne Center, 120 W. Jefferson Blvd., Fort Wayne, Ind. Cost for the conference is $150. Hotel accommodations are the responsibility of each individual. APRIL 20: IBEP BULL SALE Cattle producers looking for bulls to add pounds and quality to their calves should attend this sale and video auction. All 130 bulls offered in the sale are part of the Indiana Beef Evaluation Program. They have undergone rigorous testing for breeding and structural soundness. The sale begins at 6 p.m. at the Springville Feeder Auction in Springville, Ind. Bulls also may be viewed and purchased through live video at these five sites: Tippecanoe County Extension Office, Lafayette; Parke County Extension Office, Rockville; Washington County Extension Office, Salem; the Kosciusko County Courthouse, Warsaw; and the NRCS office in Lawrenceburg, Ky. Before the auction, the bulls may be seen at the Feldun-Purdue Ag Center in Bedford, Ind., or after 3 p.m. the day of the sale at the Springville Feeder Auction.
