Alumni honors

–  Four Purdue graduates have been named Distinguished Alumni by the School of Pharmacy and Pharmacal Sciences. The award recognizes the accomplishments of alumni who have demonstrated excellence in the field of pharmacy. The recipients are:

•  Joe E. Haberle, who received bachelor's, master's and doctoral degrees from Purdue in 1954, 1958 and 1960, respectively. Haberle is professor and director of student placement and development at the St. Louis College of Pharmacy, Des Peres, Mo.

•  Dianne L. Kennedy, project manager for the Food and Drug Administration, Germantown, Md. Kennedy received a bachelor's degree in pharmacy from Purdue in 1974 and a master's degree in epidemiology from the Johns Hopkins University School of Public Health in 1979.

•  T. Lamar Kerley of Austin, Texas, who received a doctor of pharmacology degree from Purdue in 1958. He is a consultant for pharmaceutical and medical companies, especially those involving industry in the United States and Japan.

• Albert I. Wertheimer, director, outcomes research and management, Merck & Co. Inc., Blue Bell, Pa. Wertheimer received a doctoral degree in pharmacy administration from Purdue in 1969.

Campus activities

–  The Span Plan division of the Office of the Dean of Students is accepting applications for the annual Cecelia Zissis Graduate Student Grant. The $250 award is for part-time female graduate students, age 24 or older. The application deadline is May 31. Applicants must demonstrate academic potential and financial need. Preference is given to students who are beginning graduate study. The award was established in July 1987 to recognize Zissis' 37 years of service to the university.
