Appointments and promotions

–   Lisa Kuuttila is the new assistant vice president for technology commercialization at the Purdue Research Foundation. She will facilitate commercialization of Purdue's technology and will support university initiatives for faculty start-up companies and economic development as she leads the Office of Technology Commercialization in managing Purdue faculty's intellectual property assets. Before coming to Purdue, Kuuttila directed technology commercialization offices at the University of Georgia and Iowa State University. She was president and founder of Technology Alignments Inc., a Cupertino, Calif., company that assists organizations with development and implementation of market-driven technology commercialization and alignment strategies.

Faculty and staff honors

–   Muriel Harris, professor of English, has won the 2000 Conference on College Composition and Communication Exemplar Award. The award, now in its 10th year, is presented to a person who serves as an especially positive example for group members and represents the highest ideals of scholarship, teaching and service to the entire profession. Harris established the Writing Lab at Purdue in 1976; began the Writing Lab Newsletter; established the Online Writing Lab, known as OWL, in 1994, making it the first on-line writing lab in the country; and contributed to forming the National Writing Centers Association. The Conference on College Composition is a constituent group of the National Council of Teachers of English.

Campus activities

–   Purdue students, faculty and staff are invited to participate in University Day, an annual campus cleanup sponsored by Purdue Student Government. The event will start at 9 a.m. Thursday, April 13, and continue through 4 p.m. Participants can volunteer for one hour on the day of the event by reporting to booths located around campus, including the Memorial Mall, Hicks Library, Agriculture Administration, Lynn Hall, Grissom Hall, the Purdue Armory, Founders Park and the Purdue Mall.
