March 17, 2000 'The Music of Andrew Lloyd Webber' at Elliott HallWEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. "The Music of Andrew Lloyd Webber" will play at Purdue University's Elliott Hall of Music at 8 p.m. Thursday, April 6. The theatrical concert event, directed by British director Arlene Phillips, was created to showcase the diverse career of the composer. Fourteen young performers will accompany the 28-piece Philarmonia Europa on stage to perform the most memorable songs from Webber's musical theater and other compositions. Songs included are from "The Phantom of the Opera," "Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat," "Evita," "Cats," "Jesus Christ Superstar," "Starlight Express," "Sunset Boulevard," "Requiem" and "Aspects of Love." Since bursting onto the Broadway scene some 20 years ago, Webber and his work have become an integral part of musical theater. Arguably one of the most prolific composers of the 20th century, he has embraced a variety of musical styles from opera to jazz to rock, and he has won Tony, Grammy and Academy awards. An "informance" about Webber is scheduled for the Saturday before the performance. Purdue Theatre faculty member Anne Fliotsos will talk about Webber and his music at 2 p.m. Saturday, April 1, at Barnes & Noble Booksellers on Sagamore Parkway by the Tippecanoe Mall. The April 6 performance is presented by Purdue Convocations as part of the Lively Arts Package and is sponsored by Caterpillar. Tickets are $33, $25 and $16 for the public, and $18 and $15 for Purdue students. Family Circle (second balcony) pricing is $8 for adults and $6 for children 12 and under.
