Livestock management workshop offered

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – The Southern Indiana Purdue Agricultural Center in Dubois County will sponsor a March 14 workshop on issues in the cattle industry. It's the first of five seminars in the SIPAC 2000 Workshop Series.

"Our goal is to provide timely information to cattle producers so that they can improve their management practices, as well as their general operations," said Jim Peter, Cooperative Extension Service educator in Dubois County. "Participants will gain information in a variety of areas, including herd-health management, cost reduction, improving production efficiency and maintaining an environmentally sound production system."

Topics of this workshop include heifer selection, body condition scoring, selecting performance-tested bulls, sampling pastures for endophyte fescue, worming herds and developing fly-control strategies.

The 6 p.m. workshop is free and open to the public. Each workshop will last approximately two hours, and materials may be distributed by each speaker. SIPAC is at 11371 E. Purdue Farm Rd.

For additional information about this workshop or any others in the series, contact Peter at (812) 482-1782, jim@dubois.ces.purdue.edu.

Other workshops in the series will deal with livestock and pasture management and will be May 9, July 11, Sept. 12 and Nov. 9.
