February 18, 2000 Health center to raise awareness of eating disordersWEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. The Purdue Student Health Center will be "Celebrating EveryBODY" during National Eating Disorders Awareness and Prevention Week Feb. 19-26. The featured event for the week will be author and psychotherapist Julia Boyd speaking on "Celebrating and Validating Healthy Self-Esteem" at 7 p.m. Thursday (2/24) in the Elliott Hall of Music. Boyd is the author of several books, including "In the Company of My Sisters," "Girlfriend to Girlfriend" and "Can I Get a Witness? For Sisters, When the Blues Is More Than a Song." Other activities during the week include a body acceptance booth at Kappa Epsilon's Health Fair, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Thursday (2/23), in the ballrooms of the Purdue Memorial Union, and Fearless Friday, a day to abstain from dieting, bad body thoughts and negative self-talk. The activities are sponsored by the Student Wellness Office, Students for Healthy (Body) Acceptance and Positive Esteem, the Black Cultural Center and Purdue Student Government.
