Health center to raise awareness of eating disorders

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – The Purdue Student Health Center will be "Celebrating EveryBODY" during National Eating Disorders Awareness and Prevention Week Feb. 19-26.

The featured event for the week will be author and psychotherapist Julia Boyd speaking on "Celebrating and Validating Healthy Self-Esteem" at 7 p.m. Thursday (2/24) in the Elliott Hall of Music. Boyd is the author of several books, including "In the Company of My Sisters," "Girlfriend to Girlfriend" and "Can I Get a Witness? For Sisters, When the Blues Is More Than a Song."

Other activities during the week include a body acceptance booth at Kappa Epsilon's Health Fair, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Thursday (2/23), in the ballrooms of the Purdue Memorial Union, and Fearless Friday, a day to abstain from dieting, bad body thoughts and negative self-talk.

The activities are sponsored by the Student Wellness Office, Students for Healthy (Body) Acceptance and Positive Esteem, the Black Cultural Center and Purdue Student Government.
