Appointments and promotions

–  Mark A. Wright has joined the Purdue Alumni Association as the director of financial operations. His responsibilities include accounting projects, personnel records and maintaining relationships with the association's constituents. A 1985 graduate of Purdue, Wright previously worked as a plant and auxiliary fund accountant for Purdue. He began his career at Purdue in 1989 as a tax accountant. Before that, Wright served as a field auditor for the Indiana Department of Revenue.

Campus activities

–  A callout for "Weigh to Go," a seven-week weight control program for students, will be at 3:30 p.m. Wednesday (2/9) in the cafeteria of the Student Health Center. The series focuses on healthy eating and exercise as part of a comprehensive weight-loss plan. Registration is $30. –  The Office of the Vice President for Research is accepting nominations for the annual Herbert Newby McCoy Award. The award is presented to a faculty member or student for contributions to the field of science. More information about the nomination process is available from Cynthia Habbinga, the Office of the Assistant Vice President for Research, (765) 494-6840. The application deadline is Feb. 25.

–  A bowling team from Purdue will compete against a team from the University of Kansas during "Rockin' Bowl" at 8 p.m. Tuesday (2/8) on TNN cable network. In this invitational, top bowling teams from 16 universities and colleges compete in traditional and not-so-traditional bowling events, from black lights to bowling backwards. Each week, two five-member bowling teams will compete, with the winner moving up in the rankings and on to the finals.
