Purdue seeking cherry blossom princess

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – Indiana's representative to the National Cherry Blossom Festival in Washington, D.C., April 2-8, will come from Purdue University.

Students wanting to be considered as the state representative should be Indiana residents or the daughters of Indiana residents; be in good academic standing; be between the ages of 19 and 23; never have been married; and be able to participate in all the events that may be scheduled during the festival.

Applicants should submit a letter of intent including leadership experience, qualifications and unique qualities. The letter should be submitted to the Office of the Dean of Students, Student Activities and Organizations, Schleman Hall, Room 250, by noon, Friday, Feb. 11.

The Cherry Blossom Princess for Indiana will have an all-expenses-paid trip to Washington and will have a chance to represent the United States at the festival in Japan. The Cherry Blossom Princess will be the honored guest at all of the formal and informal festival functions, where the princesses traditionally receive a number of gifts.

Since 1948, the National Conference of State Societies has been the sponsoring organization for the Cherry Blossom Festival Princesses, who represent their states during festival activities each spring. All princesses participate in a week of activities culminating in the National Cherry Blossom Festival parade, one of Washington's largest and most popular spectator events.
