February 4, 2000 Kirksey lecturer to discuss maternal zinc deficiencyWEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. Laura E. Caulfield, a professor of international nutrition at Johns Hopkins University, will lecture about "The Public Health Importance of Maternal Zinc Deficiency: Lessons Learned From Peru" on Friday, Feb. 11, at Purdue University. She will speak at 10:30 a.m. in Room 218, Stewart Center. The lecture is free and open to the public, but seating is limited. Caulfield is a nutritional epidemiologist with research interest in maternal and infant nutrition. Her research has taken her to Peru, Argentina, Bolivia, Guatemala and Canada. Her presentation is part of the Avanelle Kirksey Lecture Series, which honors the 33-year teaching career of former Department of Foods and Nutrition faculty member Avanelle Kirksey. The lecture is sponsored by the Gerber Products Co., the endowment supported by Ross Products Division of Abbott Laboratories Inc., and alumni and friends.
