This calendar lists selected Purdue events during the next four weeks. Events are free and open to the public, except where noted, and all are open to news media coverage. New or updated listings have two asterisks (**). All events in this calendar, plus many others, are listed in Purdue's online calendar.

EVENTS

• Tuesday, Feb. 8.  Annual Midwest Retail Management Career Fair. 10 a.m.-noon and 1:30-3 p.m. South Ballroom, Purdue Memorial Union. Open to the public; professional attire is recommended.

• Tuesday, Feb. 8.  Public information session about funding available from the federal Advanced Technology Program to accelerate the development of high-risk technologies. 1:30-2:30 p.m. Purdue Technology Center, 3000 Kent Ave. Session sponsored Purdue's Office of Industry Research and Technology Programs.

• Saturday, Feb. 12.  18th annual Rube Goldberg Machine Contest. 11 a.m. Elliott Hall of Music. Contest winner will advance to the national contest April 8 at Purdue. The task for this year is to place in a time capsule a minimum of seven items representing the best inventions, ideas and discoveries of the past 100 years.

** • Monday, Feb. 21.  School of Management Internship-Career Fair. 10 a.m.-noon and 1-4 p.m. Ballrooms, Purdue Memorial Union. Fifty companies will be on campus to recruit interns and permanent employees.

** • Tuesday-Wednesday, Feb. 29-March 1. 8 a.m.-4 p.m.  Third Annual Teaching, Learning and Technology Showcase. Educators, staff and administrators come together to share ideas, projects, and discussion about how technology is being used in instruction at Purdue. Complete schedule available on the Web.

** • Saturday, March 4.  13th Annual Burton D. Morgan Entrepreneurial Competition finals. 1-5 p.m. Krannert Auditorium. Banquet and awards follow at 6:30 p.m. Students compete with their business plans for $30,000 in prizes and a chance to launch their ideas commercially. Sponsored by Purdue alumnus Burton Morgan, the Krannert School of Management, the Schools of Engineering and the School of Science.

• Sunday, Feb. 13.  Brahms' German Requiem, Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra. 3 p.m. Elliott Hall of Music. Guest conductor will be Christof Perick, and featured soloists will be soprano Ute Selbig and baritone Wolfgang Holzmair. • Sunday, Feb. 13.  Purdue Bands Chamber Music Recital with Concord High School Band from Elkhart. 6:30 p.m. Fowler Hall, Stewart Center.

• Sunday, Feb. 13.  Purdue Bands' Concerto Competition. 7 p.m. Room 30, Elliott Hall of Music.

• Wednesday, Feb. 16.  Black Cultural Center's Cultural Arts Series: "The Gathering: A Hip Hop Journey to the Meeting Places of Black Men." 7 p.m. Fowler Hall, Stewart Center. Written and performed by playwright/rapper/actor Will Power, "The Gathering" blends hip hop lyricism, African-American folklore, and innovative musical and rhythmic sound distortion techniques.

• Wednesday, Feb. 16.  Jewish Studies Film Series: "The Apprenticeship of Duddy Kravitz" (1974). 7:30 p.m. Room 1245, Liberal Arts and Education Building.

• Thursday, Feb. 17.  Hoagy Carmichael Centennial Celebration. 8 p.m. Long Center for the Performing Arts, 111 N. Sixth St., Lafayette. Show features orchestra, vocalists, a tap dancer, and more. • Friday, Feb. 18.  Jazz Band free concert. 8 p.m. North Ballroom, Purdue Memorial Union.

• Friday-Sunday, Feb. 18-20.  Purdue Theatre presents Shakespeare's "The Comedy of Errors." Performances at 8 p.m. Friday and Saturday and 2 p.m. Sunday. Loeb Playhouse, Stewart Center. • Saturday, Feb. 19.  Black Cultural Center's Cultural Arts Series: BCC Coffee House. 7 p.m. Fowler Hall, Stewart Center. All four BCC performing arts ensembles – the Jahari Dance Troupe, the Black Voices of Inspiration Choir, the New Directional Players and the Haraka Writers – will perform. Tickets: $5 for students, $7 for the public, available the evening of the show at Loeb Box Office, Stewart Center.

• Tuesday-Wednesday, Feb. 22-23.  Purdue Theatre presents special school matinees of "The Comedy of Errors." 11 a.m. Loeb Playhouse, Stewart Center. Speaker: Molefi Kente Asante, professor and chair of the Department of African American Studies at Temple University who is the founder of the theory of Afrocentricity.
