Appointments and promotions

– Tim Newton has been named the director of external relations and communications for the School of Management and Krannert Graduate School of Management. For the past seven years, he was director of communications for the Purdue Alumni Association, where he was editor of The Purdue Alumnus magazine. Before that he worked for the Purdue News Service. In the newly created position, Newton will serve as editor-in-chief for all of Krannert's print media. He also will manage the Krannert Web site and the school's coordinator of special events. A native of Irving, N.Y., and a 1981 Purdue graduate, Newton will continue to serve as play-by-play announcer for Purdue women's basketball and as host/producer for Purdue football on the Learfield Purdue Sports Network.

– Sharon L. Martin has been appointed editor of The Purdue Alumnus magazine and director of communications for the Purdue Alumni Association. Martin's responsibilities include producing the bimonthly alumni magazine, as well as coordinating the association's other communication and publication projects. A 1989 graduate of Central Michigan University, Martin joined the association in 1993 as assistant editor. In 1995 she was promoted to managing editor and director of publications. Before joining the association, Martin was assistant director of public relations for St. Elizabeth Hospital Medical Center.

Campus activities

– The deadline for the Educational Travel Program to London has been extended to Jan. 25. The travel program dates are March 10-18, and the trip includes two live theater performances, museum admissions, airfare and accommodations. The cost is $1,995 per person.
