January 7, 2000 Nominations sought for annual Violet Haas awardWEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. The Council on the Status of Women at Purdue is seeking nominations for the organization's annual Violet Haas Award. The council is soliciting nominations of an individual, program or department that has made an outstanding effort for the advancement of women at the university, whether in hiring, promotion, education, salary, or generally enhancing a positive professional climate for women. Nomination letters with support statements (up to three pages) and the nominee's resume (up to four pages) must be received by Feb. 18 to be considered for the 2000 award. Past winners are ineligible. Nomination packets should be sent to Judy Ware, Selection Committee Chair, English Department, Heavilon Hall. The Council on the Status of Women, which works to provide a voice for all women at Purdue, established the Violet Haas Award in 1990. Last year's winner was Martha Chiscon, associate dean in the School of Science. Haas was a faculty member in the School of Electrical Engineering from 1962 until her death in 1986.
