Indianapolis broadcasts set for Purdue TV magazine

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – "Purdue: A Closer Look," the weekly television magazine that takes a closer look at the university's people, programs, research and services, makes its season broadcast premiere on WFYI TV-20, Indianapolis, on Saturday, Jan. 15.

Each half-hour program includes a campus news update, feature segments and a studio interview. The 13-program series will be seen on WFYI at 11:30 a.m. Saturdays.

The series is presented jointly by the Division of Instructional Services, the Office of University Relations and the Agricultural Communication Service. Co-hosts are Beth Forbes, news coordinator in Ag Communications, and Greg Zawisza, director of special projects in University Relations.

In addition to the Indianapolis broadcasts, the program is seen at various times on cable outlets around the state.

WFYI broadcast dates and topics for upcoming programs:

• Jan. 15 – Cold virus research; business incubators in the Purdue Research Park; stepping out with the Ballroom Dance Team.

• Jan. 22 – Literacy initiatives; the trend toward a two-class American society; tracing the roots of the nickname "Boilermakers."

• Jan. 29 – The Center for Families; alcohol, drug and tobacco education and awareness; adopting retired greyhounds.

• Feb. 5 – Biotechnology research update; genetically modified organisms; saluting Purdue's best teachers with the Book of Great Teachers.

• Feb. 12 – Prospects for a 12-month school calendar; lively arts presentation on the West Lafayette campus; the pros and cons of all-day kindergarten.

• Feb. 19 – Purdue vocalists shine "down under"; the changing landscape of Hoosier farming; the newest inductees into the Athletic Hall of Fame.
