November 19, 1999 Merchants to bring the North Pole to Purdue WestWEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. Take a ride in a horse-drawn carriage, listen to caroling and visit Santa Claus at Purdue West Shopping Center on Saturday, Dec. 4. Purdue West, at 1400 W. State St. on the west edge of the Purdue University campus, will host a "Holiday Celebration and Sale" from 10 a.m. that day until its stores close (individual stores close at different times). As part of the event, two Purdue musical groups will be on hand to perform. The Black Voices of Inspiration, a Black Cultural Center choral ensemble, will sing inspirational carols near the gazebo from noon to 1 p.m., followed by holiday music by the Purdue Pep Band from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. Children and adults can take carriage rides and visit with Santa from 10 a.m. until noon. Then they can put their names in to win prizes, including a gigantic stocking stuffed with toys, coupons and gifts. Purdue West Shopping Center is a neighborhood, open-air shopping center managed by the Purdue Research Foundation Division of Real Estate, which is responsible for acquiring, managing, selling and maintaining property for Purdue University and Purdue Research Foundation.
