Appointments and promotions Lesley Bryan has been appointed patrol officer with the Purdue Police Department. She formerly was a staff member in Purdue Materials Management and Distribution involved in customer satisfaction, inventory controls and new project support. A 1998 Purdue graduate in psychology with a minor in law and society, Bryan grew up in Winona Lake, Ind. Campus activities Four deceased Purdue students will be recognized during the monthly Golden Taps ceremony at 10 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 30, in Spitzer Court, Cary Quadrangle. The honored students are Brian Storniolo, a graduate student in mechanical engineering from Milwaukee, Wis.; Andres Vargus, a graduate student in education from Hubbard, Ore.; Andrew Wesenberg, a senior in aviation technology from Oshkosh, Wis.; and Michael Wolfe, a freshman in the Schools of Engineering from Fond Du Lac, Wis. The Golden Taps ceremony gives the Purdue community an opportunity to formally honor and reflect on the lives of students who have died during the previous month. Pendragon, the student leadership honorary at Cary Quadrangle, sponsors Golden Taps. The Women of Vision will sponsor its annual "A Campus Celebration of Kwanzaa" at 3 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 11. The program will be at the Fellowship Hall of the University Church. The celebration will include symbolic presentations of the seven principles of Kwanzaa, music performances and traditional African-American foods. A study skills class for older-than-average students or students who are returning to college after a number of years will be presented during the spring semester. GS290X will be taught from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Tuesdays from Jan. 11 through May 2. For more information about the three-credit course, contact Sara Jane Coffman, instructor, at (765) 494-5110. Faculty and staff honors Sue Abney, nutrition education coordinator for the Student Wellness Office, was named National Coordinator of the Year at the Eating Disorders Awareness and Prevention Conference. Abney was recognized for her work with the Celebrating EveryBODY program, which attempts to inform students about society's unrealistic expectations about body size, especially among women. Several Greater Lafayette area people completed training from the Indiana Campus Sexual Assault Prevention Project this month. Participants included Dan Larson and Carrie Costello of the Purdue Police Department; John Jones of the Office of the Dean of Students; Lisa Tetzloff of University Residences; Chico Jenson and Tammy Loew of the Student Wellness Office; and Cheryl Ubelhor of the Lafayette Crisis Center. The purpose of the training was to increase awareness of the problems associated with combining alcohol and sex and to help develop networks for sexual assault prevention.
