Rock's Def Leppard plans Jan. 28 concert at Purdue

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – Def Leppard will play at Purdue University at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Jan. 28. Joan Jett will be the opening act. The concert in Elliott Hall of Music is presented by the Purdue Student Concert Committee in cooperation with JAM Productions of Chicago.

Tickets are $19.50 for Purdue students and $25 for the public. Tickets will go on sale to the public Dec. 4, but Purdue students, faculty and staff may sign up to buy tickets ahead of the public starting at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Dec. 3.

Currently touring to support their latest album, "Euphoria," Def Leppard had its initial success in the 1980s. Formed in the late 1970s in Sheffield, Ireland, the band got its start playing at pubs. AC/DC's manager Petter Mensch helped the band sign with Mercury Records and got the band its first full-length album, "On Through the Night." Following some radio success, the band toured in Britain and the United States, opening for bands such as Ozzy Osbourne, Sammy Hagar and Judas Priest. Their next album, "High N' Dry," was released in 1981 and became the group's first platinum album in the United States. Their next album, "Pyromania," sold 10 million copies worldwide. "Hysteria" was released in 1987 and spawned six "Top 20" hits.
