'The Gut Girls' plays on Experimental Theatre stage

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – English women from the upper and lower classes struggle to define their roles in society in Purdue Theatre's Nov. 11-21 production of "The Gut Girls."

Written in 1989 by Sarah Daniels, the show plays in the Experimental Theatre, Stewart Center. Kristine Holtvedt, associate professor of theater, directs the production.

"I'm very excited to be directing this play," Holtvedt said. "It offers an exceptional array of strong female characters and a very compelling story. The Victorian notions of femininity and the degree to which those notions are at odds with the self-worth of these women is an important story."

The cast features a collection of graduate and undergraduate students in Purdue's academic program.

"The Gut Girls" will be performed at 8 o'clock every night Nov. 11-21, except Monday, Nov. 15, when there is no performance. In addition, a matinee will be presented at 2 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 14. Tickets are $7 for students and senior citizens, $11 for adults. The run opens with a sneak preview at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 10, and all tickets for that show are $4.50.

Tickets are available at the Loeb Box Office or by calling (765) 494-3933. Group discounts are available by calling (765) 494-3084.
