Nutrition and aging seminar set for Nov. 5

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – The Interdepartmental Gerontology Program at Purdue University is holding a half-day symposium on aging and nutrition beginning at 8:30 a.m. Friday, Nov. 5, in the formal dining room of Hillenbrand Hall.

Health-care professionals and members of the public interested in the topic are invited to attend the free seminar. Seating is limited to 200 people.

Presentations will include "Calorie Intake, Oxidative Stress and Aging" by Richard Weindruch, professor of medicine at the University of Wisconsin; "20-20 Vision for an Aging Society" by Ken Ferraro, Purdue professor of sociology; and "In Search of the Determinants of Mammalian Aging and Cancer Risk" by David Waters, associate professor in Purdue's School of Veterinary Medicine.

Purdue's Interdepartmental Gerontology Program evolved from the former Center for Research on Aging, which was established in 1985. Ferraro is its director, with the assistance of Waters and Gerald Hyner, professor of health, kinesiology and leisure studies.
