October 29, 1999 Purdue field day zeros in on site-specific technologiesWEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. Indiana farmers who are undecided about using precision agriculture technology can learn more about it at a field day Wednesday, Nov. 17, featuring Purdue University Extension specialists. The one-day Precision Ag Workshop for Beginners, sponsored by Successful Farming magazine, will be at the Davis-Purdue Agricultural Center on State Road 1 in Randolph County. Lunch is included in the $25 cost of the workshop. Producers who haven't yet decided if they should take the giant leap into space-based yield monitoring and global positioning systems (GPS) will get hands-on experience with yield monitors, yield maps and GPS mapping. Discussions will include: Yield monitor installation, calibration and use. Using GPS to navigate in fields. Interpreting yield map information. A talk on what using GPS is like, by a panel of farmers who are experienced with the technology.
