Beering receives Extension Director's Award

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – Purdue University President Steven C. Beering is this year's recipient of the Purdue Cooperative Extension Director's Award.

The award was presented Tuesday (10/19) at the Purdue University Extension annual conference, which was held on Purdue's West Lafayette campus.

"President Beering has enhanced the Purdue Cooperative Extension Service's long tradition of leadership and service to the people of Indiana," said David Petritz, director of the Extension Service. "We deeply appreciate the long and unwavering support he has given to the Extension Service over his tenure at Purdue."

The Director's Award is not given annually, but instead is given only when the Extension director chooses to recognize exemplary effort on behalf of the land-grant university mission.

Dr. Beering has been Purdue's president since 1983. He holds bachelor's and M.D. degrees from the University of Pittsburgh. Before his appointment as Purdue president, Beering served for a decade as dean and director of the Indiana University Medical Center. In addition to his administrative responsibilities, he holds appointments as professor of medicine at Indiana University and professor of medicinal chemistry and molecular pharmacology at Purdue.
