Theatre presents comedy about bumbling parents

WEST LAFAYETTE – Being a parent is something to laugh about in Purdue Studio Theatre's first production, "Baby With the Bathwater" by Christopher Durang.

The show plays Oct. 21-24 in the Black Box Theatre, Creative Arts Building 3. Larry Sommers, assistant director of recreational sports, directs the production.

This satiric black comedy by Durang revolves around two new parents with the best of intentions who never quite seem to get things right. The New York Post called the play "a typical example of (Durang's) dangerous wit and anarchic sense of humor."

"For anyone who has ever vowed not to parent as they were parented, this show is a must-see," said Sommers, who holds a master of fine arts degree in directing from the University of Missouri-Kansas City. "That Daisy survives to become a parent is a testimony to our Nanny's assertion, 'Children are sturdy creatures.'"

The cast of "Baby With the Bathwater" features a company of undergraduate students in Purdue's academic program.

"Baby With the Bathwater" performances will be at 8 p.m. Thursday-Saturday, Oct. 21-23, and 2 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 24. All tickets are $5 at the Loeb Box Office or by calling (765) 494-3933 or (800) 914-SHOW.
