Purdue Memorial Union providing millennium party

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – The Purdue Memorial Union will celebrate the end of the millennium with a New Year's Eve party for 750 guests.

Lenny Seidel, catering manager for the Memorial Union, said the event in the North and South Ballrooms will start at 9 p.m. Dec. 31 and run until 1 a.m. Jan. 1. The party will feature the music of the Outcast Jazz Band from Chicago, a 17-piece group that specializes in Big Band music from the 1930s through the 1950s but also plays more contemporary arrangements.

"We will provide our guests with endless culinary delights throughout the evening," Seidel said. The union staff will serve a full buffet-style meal with a complimentary glass of champagne. There also will be a cash bar and a Viennese desert table. Guests also will enjoy a Year 2000 breakfast send-off.

The gathering is a closed, catered event costing $199 per couple, or $299 per couple with deluxe accommodations in the Union Club Hotel. Black tie is optional. People who have not received their invitations or wish to make reservations should contact the events management office of the Memorial Union, (765) 494-8940.
