October 8, 1999 Appointments and promotions Sporty King has been named the Purdue Black Cultural Center's new artist-in-residence for Haraka Writers, one of the BCC's four performing arts ensembles. King, a native of New York City who now lives in Chicago, is an author, professional motivational speaker and poet. His published books include "We Have Your Love: A Captivating Collection of Love Poetry," "I Found Out I'm Dying: A Celebration of LIFE in Spoetry," and its sequel "I Found Out I'm Living: An Affirmation of LIFE in Spoetry." He is the founder of R. King & Associates, a professional speaking business, and vice president of the Chicago chapter of the National African American Speakers Association. He conducted a poetry reading at Purdue in March. Campus activities "Financial Strategies for the New Century" will air on the Purdue Channel (Insight Cable channel 5) at 7:30 p.m. Monday, Oct. 25. The broadcast will be a tape delay of a live teleconference running from noon to 1:30 p.m. Oct. 22. The event is sponsored by TIAA-CREF, the world's largest retirement system. The local broadcast is sponsored by the Purdue Department of Personnel Services.
