Ag career fair puts students and employers together

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – Nearly 90 public and private organizations will participate in this year's Food, Agriculture and Natural Resources Career Fair on Tuesday, Oct. 5, at Purdue University.

The free event also will attract more than 1,000 students looking for summer jobs, internships and permanent employment. Other job-seekers also are welcome. The fair will be from 9:30 a.m. to 11:45 a.m. and 1 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. in the ballrooms of the Purdue Memorial Union and is sponsored by the School of Agriculture.

Employers sending representatives to the fair include agribusinesses, landscapers, farm services and organizations, and government agencies. A complete list of participating employers is available on the Placement Services Web.

"The good news is that despite a soft agriculture economy, this will be one of our top career fairs in employer participation," said Allan Goecker, assistant dean and associate director of academic programs in Purdue's School of Agriculture.

He said there are good jobs and other opportunities for agriculture graduates. "Of our May 1999 graduates, 94 percent have already found jobs or are furthering their education," Goecker said. The average annual starting salary for a spring Purdue ag grad was $30,318.
