September 24, 1999 Zukerman to perform with chamber ensemble Oct. 13WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. Internationally renowned flutist Eugenia Zukerman will appear with the new chamber ensemble, the International Sejong Soloists, at 8 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 13, in Loeb Playhouse at Purdue University. Presented by Purdue Convocations, the concert is the first of the popular Loeb Music Collection series of chamber music and classical solo recital events. The program will feature Grieg's Holberg Suite (Aus Holberg's Zeit), Op. 40, flute concertos by Mercadante and Vivaldi, as well as Shostakovich's Chamber Symphony, Op. 110a. Created in New York City in 1995, the Sejong Soloists can claim seven different national ties: Australia, China, Germany, Japan, Korea, Taiwan and the United States. Each member has a distinguished reputation as a soloist and chamber musician, confirmed by prize-winning performances at prestigious international competitions, among them the Yehudi Menuhin, Queen Elisabeth, Indianapolis, Naumberg, Jacques Thibaud, Wieniawski-Lipinski, Tibor Varga, Hannover, Nielsen and Aldo Parisot/Janos Starker. The ensemble remains based in New York, where it works with music director Hyo Kang, a renowned professor of violin at the Juilliard School. Whether with orchestra, in solo or duet, or in ensemble, Zukerman is renowned worldwide. For more than 25 years, she has performed throughout North America, Europe, Asia and the Middle East. Respected for her innovative programming as well as for her distinguished performances, Zukerman in 1998 became music director of the International Vail Valley Music Festival in Colorado's Rocky Mountains. Zukerman also enjoys successful careers as an author and television commentator. She has been the arts correspondent for "CBS Sunday Morning" since 1980 and has done approximately 300 artist profiles in her 19 years on the program. As a writer, Zukerman has been published in many periodicals, including the New York Times, Esquire, and Vogue, and has two novels to her credit.
