Game-day traffic, parking revisions,
shuttle bus announced
WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. The Purdue University Police Department and Intercollegiate Athletics have announced a number of traffic and parking revisions and a new parking shuttle service for Saturday's (9/18) 11:10 a.m. Purdue vs. Central Michigan football game at Ross-Ade Stadium.
The revisions are based on experiences from last Saturday's sold-out home season opener against Notre Dame, and continue to address traffic-flow concerns caused by the extensive road construction under way in West Lafayette, said Purdue police Capt. Tyree Harris.
He said motorists again should plan to arrive early, and should note these changes for the second home game of the season:
Both before and after the game, Greater Lafayette fans are encouraged to use the Harrison Bridge over the Wabash River north of downtown Lafayette instead of the State Road 26 twin-span bridge from downtown, which heads into the heart of the construction zone.
After the game, all vehicles exiting Ackerman Hills Golf Course permit parking northwest of the stadium will be directed eastbound on two lanes on Cherry Lane to merge north or south onto Northwestern Avenue. Cherry Lane will be designated eastbound only after the game from McCormick Road to Northwestern Avenue. Motorists also should be alert to other temporary one-way post-game routes.
Motorists driving east on Stadium Avenue after the game will need to turn north or south onto Northwestern Avenue. Continuing eastbound on Stadium Avenue will be prohibited.
Persons parking in the paid parking areas on the intramural fields west of campus and north of the Purdue Airport will have a new, free shuttle bus service available. Up to four buses will offer a shuttle loop well before and after the game, with marked pickup points near Hillenbrand Hall and on Airport Road. Shuttle passengers will be dropped off on Stadium Avenue at Waldron Street, in front of the main entrance to Cary Quadrangle just south of the stadium.
Post-game shuttles will pick up passengers at the same location in front of Cary Quadrangle, with a drop-off point near the McCutcheon Drive Parking Garage near both intramural fields. Post-game shuttles will begin their runs in the middle of the fourth quarter of the game.
A new overflow parking lot for John Purdue Club parking-permit holders has been designated in a lot just southwest of Slayter Center of Performing Arts, between the Rankin Track and Field Complex and the Lambert Field varsity baseball diamond south of Stadium Avenue.
A major construction project involving the realignment of the intersection of State Roads 26 and 43 (State Street and River Road) in the West Lafayette Levee area west of downtown Lafayette began over the summer. It includes ramp work on the Harrison Bridge on the West Lafayette side as well as lane restrictions on the bridge and in the construction area. Game-bound motorists unfamiliar with the construction are encouraged to scan Purdue's Travel Alert Web page for additional information.
Purdue, West Lafayette, Lafayette, Tippecanoe County and Indiana State police departments are working cooperatively to handle traffic flow on all home football game days this fall.
