Lawn party first PMU anniversary eventWEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. -- The Purdue Memorial Union will mark its 75th anniversary at 2 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 9, with a birthday party on the front lawn.The event will feature a six-foot tall cake, live music, Purdue Pete, the Boilermaker Special and a speakeasy sponsored by Coca-Cola. In conjunction with the anniversary, Purdue will publish a book about the Memorial Union's origins and history. The volume is expected to be on sale by Homecoming, Oct. 16. Other anniversary activities will include a dedication program on Veteran's Day, Nov. 11, when Union staff will unveil a plaque on the Great Hall floor that explains the inlaid cross and the building's history as a war memorial. The following evening, a formal gala is scheduled in the Union ballrooms. Throughout the semester, historical displays about the Union will be set up throughout the building.
