This calendar lists selected Purdue events during the next four weeks. Events are free and open to the public, except where noted, and all are open to news media coverage. New or updated listings have two asterisks (**). All events in this calendar, plus many others, are listed in Purdue's on-line calendar.

Updated travel directions around road construction zones near campus are available on the Web.

EVENTS

  • Tuesday, Sept. 7. Jewish Studies Open House. 4-6 p.m. Anniversary Drawing Room, Purdue Memorial Union. Free, open to the public, and refreshments will be served. The Lafayette Klezmorim will perform traditional Jewish music at 5 p.m.

  • Tuesday-Thursday, Sept. 7-9. RAID International Workshop. Sessions are intended to further progress in computer security and intrusion detection by promoting the exchange of ideas among researchers, system developers and users from academia, government and industry. Host is the Purdue University CERIAS (Center for Education and Research in Information Assurance and Security). More information available at http://www.cerias.purdue.edu/raid.html.

  • Wednesday, Sept. 8. New Faculty and Staff Luncheon. Noon. North Ballroom, Purdue Memorial Union. There will be an information fair after the lunch, from 1 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. in the South Ballroom.

  • Wednesday, Sept. 8. School of Veterinary Medicine Job Fair. 6-9 p.m. University Inn and Conference Center, 3001 Northwestern Ave, West Lafayette.

    ** Friday, Sept. 10. Dedication of Boeing 737 aircraft. 10:45 a.m. Purdue Airport. Don Gentry, dean of the School of Technology, and Michael Kroes, head of the Department of Aviation Technology, will formally accept and dedicate a Boeing 737 passenger jet donated by United Airlines last spring.

    ** Wednesday, Sept. 15. Industrial Roundtable. 9:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Memorial Mall. Purdue Engineering Student Council sponsors this job fair, which attracts more than 8,000 students and almost 300 companies, making it the largest student-run career fair in the United States. Rain location is the Purdue Armory.

  • Saturday, Sept. 18. Parents Day. Activities are organized by the Student Union Board around the football game against Central Michigan at 11:15 a.m. and include pregame tours, receptions and special presentations for parents and students by the academic schools; a barbecue after the football game; and the Boilermaker Boardwalk in the evening.

  • Monday-Tuesday, Sept. 20-21. Department of Restaurant, Hotel, Institutional and Tourism Management Career Day. Events include a job fair from 12:30-3:30 p.m. Tuesday in the South Ballroom of the Memorial Union; a lecture at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday in Room 218 Stewart Center by the president of the National Restaurant Association; a senior reception from 5-6:30 p.m. Monday at Stone Hall; and a lecture at 2 p.m. Monday in Room 206 Stewart Center by the chairman, president and CEO of Promus Hotel Corp.

  • Wednesday, Sept. 22. Study Abroad Information Fair. 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Purdue Memorial Mall. Purdue faculty and students who have been abroad through Purdue programs will be available to speak with students about international study, work and internship opportunities. The Purdue Study Abroad staff will be on hand to answer questions about the 150 programs Purdue offers to students who wish to study abroad for a year, semester or summer.

  • Thursday, Sept. 23. Women's Studies Open House. 4:30-6 p.m. Anniversary Drawing Room, Purdue Memorial Union. Meet the director, faculty and staff, learn about the program's activities, and meet other campus and community women's groups.

  • Saturday, Sept. 11. Pregame concert by "All-American" Marching Band. 1 p.m. Slayter Center of Performing Arts. After the 2:30 p.m. football game against Notre Dame, the band will perform at the Purdue Mall Fountain.

  • Friday-Saturday, Sept. 17-18. Chicago City Limits. 8:30 p.m. Friday; 8 p.m. Saturday. Loeb Playhouse, Stewart Center. Purdue Student Concert Committee presents this improvisational comedy team. Tickets are $15 for the public, $12 for Purdue students, at campus box offices or by phone at (765) 494-3933 or (800) 914-SHOW.

  • Saturday, Sept. 18. Purdue Bands pregame concerts. Lab Jazz Band at 8:40 a.m., Marching Band at 9:40 a.m., both at Slayter Center of Performing Arts. After the 11:10 a.m. football game against Central Michigan, the marching band will perform at the Purdue Mall Fountain.

  • Sunday, Sept. 19. PMO Varsity Glee Club. 10:30 a.m. worship service at Federated Church, 2400 Sycamore Lane, West Lafayette.

  • Sunday, Sept. 19. PMO Varsity Glee Club Slayter Hill Concert. 3 p.m. Slayter Center of Performing Arts. Free.

  • Wednesday, Sept. 22. Purdue Theatre sneak preview of "The Time of Your Life." 7:30 p.m. Experimental Theatre, Stewart Center. Tickets: $4.50 at Loeb Box Office, (765) 494-3933 or (800) 914-SHOW.

  • Thursday, Sept. 23-Sunday, Oct. 3. Purdue Theatre presents "The Time of Your Life" by William Saroyan. 8 p.m. Experimental Theatre, Stewart Center. (No performance Monday, Sept. 27; 2 p.m. matinee Sunday, Sept. 26, in addition to 8 p.m. show that day.) Directed by Professor Dale Miller, interim chairman of the Theatre Division.   • Saturday, Sept. 25. Purdue Bands pregame concerts. Concert Jazz Band performs 2 1/2 hours before football game against Northwestern (kickoff time yet to be announced). "All-American" Marching Band concert will begin 1 1/2 hours before kickoff. Both free concerts will be at Slayter Center of Performing Arts. After the game, the marching band will perform at the Purdue Mall Fountain.

This contemporary dance/ illusion/ acrobatic company will present the Midwestern premiere of "In Orbit," a piece about space exploration.     ** Thursday, Sept. 30. William Boeing Memorial Lecture. 4 p.m. Fowler Hall, Stewart Center. Speaker: Michael M. Sears, senior vice president of the Boeing Co. and president of its military aircraft and missile systems group. This is the first speaker in what will be an annual lecture series administered by the School of Aeronautics and Astronautics.

Timothy McGinley, chairman of the Purdue Board of Trustees, will discuss the process the board will use to identify and screen candidates for the presidency of the university. President Steven C.
