Chicago City Limits brings hilarity to Purdue

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. -- The acclaimed improvisational comedy troupe Chicago City Limits will give two performances at Loeb Playhouse in Stewart Center on the Purdue University campus: at 8:30 p.m. Friday, Sept. 17, and at 8 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 18.

The shows are presented by the Purdue Student Concert Committee and kick off the student organization's new comedy series for the 1999-2000 school year.

Chicago City Limits, New York's longest-running comedy revue, has been performing its unique style of improvisational theater for more than 20 years. In all of New York's theatrical productions, only "The Fantasticks" has been running longer. Over the years, Chicago City Limits has made many television appearances including "The Today Show," "McLaughlin," "The Joan Rivers Show" and "The Jackie Mason Show" as well as more recent appearances on HBO, CNN and CNBC. The ensemble also was featured on the USA network with its own TV news comedy series, "Reef News." The list of guest artists who have improvised with Chicago City Limits over the years includes international stars such as Paul Reiser, Robin Williams, Brett Butler and Bill Irwin.

The cast for the Sept. 17 and 18 performances will be Jamie Denbo, Danny Glover, Meg Sweeney Lawless, Joe O'Brien, Travis Ploeger and Rob Schiffman. The cast will also conduct a free improvisational comedy workshop for Purdue students and members of the community at 1 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 18, at Loeb Playhouse. Those interested in participating should call (765) 494-9712 for more information.

Tickets are $15 for the public and $12 for Purdue students at campus box offices. Charge by phone at (765) 494-3933 or (800) 914-SHOW.
