New institute to probe causes of highway noise

Researchers at a new institute at Purdue will focus on the root causes of highway noise, a constant nuisance that necessitates expensive barriers to buffer residential neighborhoods. An announcement ceremony for the Institute of Safe, Quiet and Durable Highways will begin at 9 a.m. Friday, Aug. 27, in the atrium of the Materials and Electrical Engineering Building. Tours of the research labs will start about 10 a.m., providing possible photo opportunities. Purdue to announce fall enrollment figures

Purdue will announce student enrollment for the West Lafayette and other campuses during a media availability at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 31, in the first-floor conference room in Schleman Hall of Student Services. University officials are expecting enrollment on the West Lafayette campus to increase for the fifth consecutive year because of another large freshman class. Vice President for Student Services Thomas Robinson, Registrar Marlesa Roney, Director of Admissions Douglas Christiansen and Vice President for Housing and Food Services John Sautter will be available to answer questions about the enrollment figures.
