Purdue begins welcoming new international studentsWEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. -- The annual influx of Purdue international students starts Monday (8/9) as graduate students move on campus.Staff from the office of International Students and Scholars will be providing shuttle service from the Purdue Airport, the Lafayette Greyhound bus station and the Lafayette Amtrak train station starting at 8 a.m. Monday, said Michael Brzezinski, director of International Students and Scholars. Purdue staff also will meet students at the Purdue Memorial Union, the campus drop-off point for Lafayette Limo shuttle service from the Indianapolis International Airport. Graduate students are expected to attend day-long orientation programs on both Thursday (8/12) or Friday (8/13). "We try to help the new students learn about life in the United States in general and Purdue and Greater Lafayette in specific," Brzezinski said. "We go over the procedures for registering for classes, paying bills and obtaining health insurance. We also review their legal rights and responsibilities as a non-citizens of United States. We bring in guest speakers and schedule social activities on and off campus. The International Center and local churches offer free meals to help the new student feel more comfortable." While graduate students will orient next week, undergraduate students start moving in the week of Aug. 15. Undergraduate international students have orientation sessions scheduled the afternoon of Aug. 17 and the morning of Aug. 18. Activities for all international students will include a trip to Wolf Park on Aug. 19; a visit to Tippecanoe Battlefield and a shopping trip to Tippecanoe Mall on Aug. 21; and reception featuring Purdue President Steven C.
