Field days provide latest information in agriculture

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. -- Purdue University will hold four field days in August to showcase the latest research in agriculture through workshops, demonstrations, tours and seminars.

The field days will be conducted at four of the eight Purdue Agriculture Centers, where researchers carry out projects of a regional nature, help identify and solve production problems, and explain and demonstrate the results of sophisticated research.

Visitor to the field days will learn how various crops are progressing in 1999, including what kinds of yields to expect, weather impacts and insect pressures. They also will be presented with new developments in agriculture, such as learning how to use a portable Global Positioning System to find problem spots in a field.

Several of the field days will include tour/discussion segments, such as a forestry tour at the Southeast Purdue Ag Center that will take participants to established woodlands and plantations while discussing woodlot management practices and economic considerations.

Each field day, sponsored by the Purdue Office of Agricultural Research Programs and the Purdue Cooperative Extension Service, is free and open to the public, with sponsored meals included.
