This calendar lists selected Purdue events during the next five weeks. Events are free and open to the public, except where noted, and all are open to news media coverage. New or updated listings have two asterisks (**). All events in this calendar, plus many others, are listed in Purdue's on-line calendar

EVENTS

  • Sunday, Aug. 8. Summer commencement for all schools. 2:30 p.m. Elliott Hall of Music. Tickets, issued free to all candidates for degrees, are necessary for admission.

    ** Sunday-Thursday, Aug. 15-19. Boiler Gold Rush, a new-student orientation program sponsored by the Office of Admissions. Approximately 2,700 first-time Purdue students will move into residence halls early, participate in campus tours and learn about Purdue traditions.

    ** Friday, Aug. 20. Move-in day for most students who will live in Purdue residence halls. Classes will begin Monday, Aug. 23.

    ** Saturday, Aug. 21. President's Gala for new students. 7 p.m. Elliott Hall of Music. President Steven C. Beering will welcome the new students. Parents are welcome to attend.

    ** Sunday, Aug. 22. School of Consumer and Family Sciences student organization fair. Noon-2 p.m. Founders Park. CFS Student Council presents this showcase of CFS clubs.

    ** Sunday, Aug. 22. Pre-pharmacy orientation. 1:30-3 p.m. Room 114, Physics Building. Pharmacy Student Council will conduct tours and introduce first-year pre-pharm students to pharmacy organizations.

    ENTERTAINMENT

    ** Friday, Aug. 27. Varsity Glee Club First Nighter free concert. 7:30 p.m. Ballrooms, Purdue Memorial Union. Presented by Purdue Musical Organizations.

    CALLOUTS

    ** Wednesday, Aug. 25. Purdue Theatre callout. 7 p.m. Experimental Theatre, Stewart Center. For students from all schools and disciplines who are interested in live theatrical production. Meet professors and graduate students, sign up to work on crews, learn about audition dates.

    ** Wednesday, Aug. 25. Water Ski Club callout. 7:30-9 p.m. Fowler Hall, Stewart Center.

    ** Wednesday, Aug. 25. Boilermaker Tractor Pull Foundation callout. 8-9 p.m. Room 3410, Lilly Hall of Life Sciences.

    ** Wednesday-Thursday, Aug. 25-26. Student Engineering Foundation callout. 7-8 p.m. Room 224, Class of '50 Lecture Hall.

    ** Thursday, Aug. 26. Women's Rugby callout. 8-9 p.m. Purdue Armory.

    OTHER

    ** Monday, Aug. 23. Fall semester begins.
