Counselors: Eight good reasons to attend PurdueWEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. -- According to Kaplan's 1999 National Guidance Counselor Survey, thousands of high school guidance counselors believe there's more than one good reason to attend Purdue University.Kaplan Educational Centers conducted a first-time survey of 4,500 guidance counselors around the country, from both public and private high schools, to find out which colleges and universities they recommend to their students and why. "The guidance counselors were asked to provide information on the colleges they know best," said Laura Sigman, public relations spokeswoman for Kaplan Educational Centers. "They listed Purdue as a top school in almost all of the categories available for them to choose from." Guidance counselors chose Purdue's West Lafayette campus as a top school in the following eight categories: schools for the academically competitive student; schools with top athletic programs; schools with the best co-op (work experience for college credit) programs; schools with the best range of extracurricular activities; schools that are "hidden treasures"; schools offering the maximum amount of individual academic attention; schools for the student who is learning disabled; and schools representing the best value for your money. The complete results of the national survey are in "Kaplan Newsweek College Catalog 2000," just published by Kaplan Education Centers and Simon & Schuster New York and available wherever books are sold. The catalog provides comprehensive data on more than 1,100 college and universities to help students decide which school is right for their individual needs. Kaplan Educational Centers specializes in test preparation, with 1,200 classroom locations throughout the United States and abroad. CONTACT: Sigman, (212) 492-5903; laura_sigman@kaplan.com
