This calendar lists selected Purdue events during the next five weeks. Events are free and open to the public, except where noted, and all are open to news media coverage. New or updated listings have two asterisks (**). All events in this calendar, plus many others, are listed in Purdue's on-line calendar.

EVENTS

  • Tuesday, July 13. Purdue Weed Day. 8:30 a.m.-noon. Purdue Agronomy Research Center, 4540 U.S. 52 W., West Lafayette. (Date changed from June 29) . This free event will include seminars on weed control, weed management and herbicide-tolerant crops. Participants are primarily from agribusinesses, co-ops, custom applicators and universities, but all are welcome to attend. Preregistration is not required.

    ** Saturday, July 24. Garden Day. 10 a.m.-4 p.m. In and around the Horticulture Building, which is on Marsteller Street, between Harrison and Wood streets. This free event will include tours of the Horticulture Gardens and greenhouses, plus lectures and demonstrations about plant propagation, plant diseases, and "gourmet gardening."

    ** Sunday, Aug. 8. Summer commencement for all schools. 2:30 p.m. Elliott Hall of Music. Tickets, issued free to all candidates for degrees, are necessary for admission.

    ENTERTAINMENT

    ** Tuesday, July 13. Summer Concert Band free concert. 7-9 p.m. Slayter Center of Performing Arts.

    ** Wednesday, July 21. Summer Jazz Band free concert. 7-9 p.m. Slayter Center of Performing Arts.
