Appointments and promotions

-- Purdue police officer Kenneth D. Cox has been promoted to sergeant of the Community Policing Division, with responsibility for community police officers, bicycle officers, liaison with Purdue University Residences, and coordination and supervision of the Purdue Student Security Patrol. Cox joined Purdue police in 1991 as a patrol officer, and also has been a detective sergeant. He holds a Purdue bachelor's degree in criminal justice and expects to receive a Purdue master's degree in higher education administration in December. He also is a graduate of the Indiana Law Enforcement Academy.

-- Amy Hunter has been appointed director for development for the School of Technology where she will handle all fund-raising functions as well as alumni relations. Formerly the business development manager at Bright National Bank, Hunter will continue to be involved with the Greater Lafayette Chamber of Commerce, the March of Dimes and United Way.

Faculty and staff honors

-- Dale W. Alspaugh, retiring chancellor of Purdue North Central, has received the President's Medal from Purdue President Steven C. Beering for outstanding achievement and long-time service to Purdue. Alspaugh's 40-year Purdue career includes 18 years at the North Central campus, where he has been chancellor since 1984. He is the 11th recipient of the President's Medal, a statuette that is a replica of the head of the Purdue Mace, a ceremonial staff used at all commencement ceremonies that incorporates the official university seal.

-- Gerald H. Krockover, professor of earth and atmospheric science education, is co-author of the new K-6 elementary science series of textbooks being published by Harcourt School Publishers in Orlando, Fla. Krockover was responsible for preparing the geoscience education student and teacher material for the series.
