Alspaugh remains as Purdue NC chancellor

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. -- Dale W. Alspaugh, who had planned to retire on July 1 as chancellor of Purdue University North Central, will continue to serve as chancellor until his successor is selected, said Purdue President Steven C. Beering today (Friday, 6/25).

"We are grateful to Dr. Alspaugh for agreeing to postpone his retirement to ensure continuity of leadership while we conclude the search for North Central's next chancellor," Beering said. "The search committee has been working diligently. I hope to complete the selection process during the fall semester."

The search committee is led by James W. Yackel, chancellor at Purdue Calumet.

The campus, located on 275 acres north of Westville, draws students primarily from LaPorte, Porter, Starke and surrounding counties in northern Indiana. Alspaugh was North Central vice chancellor for academic affairs and acting chancellor from 1981 to 1984. A professor of aeronautical and astronautical engineering, he joined Purdue in 1959.
