This calendar lists selected Purdue events during the next five weeks. Events are free and open to the public, except where noted, and all are open to news media coverage. New or updated listings have two asterisks (**). All events in this calendar, plus many others, are listed in Purdue's on-line calendar

EVENTS

  • Tuesday-Friday, June 8-11. Home and Family Conference at Stewart Center and Purdue Memorial Union. Sponsored by Purdue Extension's Consumer and Family Sciences program. The keynote address will be delivered Thursday morning by Michelle Passoff, author of "Lighten Up! Free Yourself from Clutter." There also will be seminars on personal finances, child development, gourmet gardening and the Internet. The conference is open to the public, and the fee is $35 for the whole conference or $25 per day. Contact Betty Krejci, (765) 494-8252, krejcib@cfs.purdue.edu.     ** Monday, June 21. Black Cultural Center opens in new building at 1100 Third St. Summer hours are 8 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday-Friday.

    ** Tuesday, June 22. Indianapolis Boiler Mixer for alumni and friends of the School of Consumer and Family Sciences. 11 a.m.-1 p.m. White River Gardens at the Indianapolis Zoo. "Bears and Bulls at the Zoo" -- a lunch and presentation about the stock market by Purdue alumnus Steve Wylam, certified financial planner and partner at Capital Analysts at the Midwest. Also, Heikki Rinne, head of the Department of Consumer Sciences and Retailing, will give an update on the department's financial counseling and planning program. Tickets cost $15.     ENTERTAINMENT

    ** Sunday, July 4. Stars and Stripes Concert and fireworks with the Lafayette Symphony Orchestra. 7 p.m. Slayter Center of Performing Arts. Updated travel directions around road construction zones near campus are available on the Road Construction Web site.
