Garages set for repairs, cleaning; new lots planned

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. -- Parking garages at Purdue University will be closed at various times over the spring and summer for annual cleaning and repair work.

Signs will be posted in the garages two weeks before each closing, said Donna Kemper, manager of parking facilities. She said vehicles left in garages after the closing dates will be towed at owners' expense.

Here is the schedule:

  • Marsteller Street Parking Garage -- closed now through June 25 for repairs.

  • Grant Street Parking Garage -- sections to be closed May 24 through June 4 for cleaning and repainting of parking lines.

  • Grant and Wood Streets Parking Garage -- to be closed June 18 through Aug. 13 for repairs.

  • North section of the University Street Parking Garage -- to be closed July 12-18 for cleaning and repainting.

  • South section of the University Street Parking Garage -- sections to be closed July 19-25 for cleaning and repainting.

  • Northwestern Avenue Parking Garage -- sections to be closed Aug. 7-17 for cleaning and repainting.

Kemper also said motorists will have two new parking lot options available when the 1999-2000 academic year begins in August. A 100-space lot north of Freehafer Hall and an 80-space lot at Third and University streets will be built over the summer. Most of the spaces in the lots will be for "A" parking permits.
