JOURNALISTS: Here's a story idea and some Purdue events during the next three weeks.
Job prospects stay healthy, employers selectiveMost of Purdue's graduating seniors didn't waste any time finding a job, says Carol Barrett, interim director of the university's Center for Career Opportunities. "We had more students registered to interview this year than last year," she said. "So it seems the seniors as a class were more motivated this year to have a job by graduation." Barrett says one advantage of a stable economy is plenty of entry-level jobs. "But it also can provide some challenges for job-seekers who delay starting a search. There are always those students who delay finding employment, with the assumption that the jobs will be waiting when they are ready to enter the work force. The reality is that employers are becoming more selective and targeted in what they're looking for. An effective job search will involve an investment of energy and time, no matter when the search begins." As in years past, Barrett says, all types of computer skills are highly marketable, and job seekers in all fields are showcasing computer-related skills. CONTACT: Carol Barrett (765) 494-3981
